The Pro’s and Con’s of listening to Classic FM in your Car.

Classic FM is a radio station that is both loved and hated by many. I remember my grandparents always used to put it on whenever we went anywhere in the car, I used to scream until they turned it off. Now however, as I have grown up a fair bit, I do find it relaxing and quite therapeutic, especially as I often have so much buzzing around my head, the last thing I want is some rapper shouting obscenities in my ear.

Classic FM does exactly what it says on the tin. Classical. No classic anthems, or classic R’n’B, just pure spine tingling, real music.

It seem classical music is often misunderstood by kids. No synthesizers, computers, and often no microphones, Classic FM is all about raw musical talent.

So I’ve listed 3 pro’s and 3 con’s on why Classical FM should be listened to in the car.

Pro’s

  1. Calming: After a busy day at work, tuning in to Classical FM will help you unwind and relax.
  2. Teach the Kids a thing or two about real music: Okay, so pulling up outside school with Classical FM blaring out and all the windows wound down might be a bit far (and most embarrassing) but getting your kids to listen may make them appreciate all the work that went into creating the symphonies. Or it may backfire and make them appreciate ‘new generation’ music a bit more…
  3. Turn it into a game: More specifically; Name that Tune. Best to play with more than one person, the alternative to ‘I Spy.’ As symphonies on Classic FM can last quite a long time, listening out for the presenter to see which one of you one is now much more fun, and guaranteed to make the journey more fun.

Con’s

  1. Kids may get their revenge: In many ways. Like screaming over the top of it until you turn it off, or when it comes to them giving you a lift somewhere when they learn to drive. You never know, you might get lucky, and your kids might enjoy it.
  2. It may send you to sleep: you don’t want to be that relaxed behind the wheel.
  3. Symphonies do last a while. Although you can turn this into a game (see Point 3 of the Pro’s) the constant sound of high pitched violins and piano’s may leave you more agitated than Classic FM desires.

So it really is up to you what you listen to in the car. You know what you get with Classic FM, just pure, honest classical music.
